Julia Rhodes Robinson of Somerset Court, Shelby, joined the Church Triumphant on June 14, 2011. She was born on April 11, 1919 in New Bern, NC, the daughter of the late John Franklin Rhodes and Blanche Pittman Rhodes. She married George Linington Robinson in 1941. She worked for the J. C. Penney Company in Fayetteville, NC for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She moved to Shelby in 1994 and became a resident of Somerset Court in 2003. She was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters and her husband. She is survived by her son, Lin Robinson and his wife Blannie of Shelby, grandson Stuart Robinson and his wife Tina of Candler, NC, great-grandson David Robinson of Mooresboro and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Robinson will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby. Dr. Luke Harkey and the Rev. Dick Hood will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00am prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet, NC.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Shelby Presbyterian Church, 226 East Graham Street, Shelby, NC, or The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, PO Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415
