On July 13th, members of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church youth group, led by Youth Pastor, Dimayquoaye Smith, chose to spend their Saturday picking up litter along Carolina Avenue and Suttle Street.

Upper Cleveland County Family Fun Day is Saturday, August 10 from 11am until 3pm.
As a kick off at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday July 28th, games, fun, and food welcomed Vacation Bible School. Perhaps the most popular attraction was the "pie in the face!" Church member Rodney Conley held the target and let all comers put a pie in his face! The kids loved it and Rodney has now developed a strong taste for "Cool Whip!"

Chris Paul, a point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team, recently signed a new contract to remain with the team. Without getting into specifics about bonuses, incentives, guarantees, etc., the NBA star will make around 20 million dollars per year. After signing his new deal Paul tweeted to friends and family, “God is so good.”

Hattie Lelar Johnson Brady, 93, of 106 Delaware Drive in Shelby passed away Wednesday July 31, 2013 at Shelby Manor.
Mrs. Shirley Mae Hoppes Blanton, 75, of E. Marion St., died Tues., July 30, 2013 at Hospice at Wendover.

Kosa
The Kosa retirees fished Lake Wylie last week with John Black and Roger McNeely getting the win. The pair had 11.11, total and anchored that with a 6.0 largemouth, which took big fish for the day. Ronnie Humphries was second with 5.13 and in a close third with 5.12 was Ned Blanton and Tony Black. This week it will be back to Lake Norman.

The government gives us statistics on the participation of hunting and fishing. The numbers that come from the federal government only include those sixteen and older while each state will refine the number down to every license sold.
Torre Laughlin, 12 years old and his Dad, Freddie were Crappie fishing on Moss Lake on April 14th when this 8 lb. largemouth bass hit his crappie jig. Torre, a Burns Middle School 7th grader landed the big catch and it was a great one. Congratulations!

Piecemakers Quilt Guild
Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC, in room 319. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. We also have a new class that meets on the second Thursday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm to provide one to one instruction to beginning quilters. Or you may know him as the fabulous musician who could make magic on a guitar. You may even know David through his beautiful wife, Sharon who is a teacher at Crest Middle School or as the Dad to two beautiful daughters, Gracie and Katie. But as of late, Mr. Wilson is known for his unimaginable compassion for others. David has a story like no other.
