AJGA Golf Tournament Sets Record
Chad Cox sinks yet another putt to make par on the 18th hole as Zachary Bauchou watches.
The Cleveland Healthcare Foundation sponsored the first American Junior Golf Association Tournament held at Deer Brook Golf Club. This event produced a record setting finish. The young golfers (12 to 18 years old) came from all over the United States, British Columbia, Thailand, and Mexico. In the girls division, Giovana Maymon of Huixquilucan, Mexico fulfilled her dream and came in with a total 7 under par 209 to capture her first championship. However, the highlight of the tournament came when two young men, with 8 under par, battled it out repeatedly all afternoon in the sweltering heat to decide a winner. Chad Cox, 18 years old,  of Charlotte, N. C. and Zachary Bauchou, 15 years old, of Forest, Virginia played the 18th hole at Deer Brook over and over as each kept scoring par. Finally, in the eighth sudden death playoff, a winner emerged. The record setting playoff ended with Zachary Bauchou becoming the tournament champ. The Bauchou-Cox play was unbelievable to watch and made the first ever AJGA Cleveland Heathcare Foundation Junior Tournament a super event.
