American Legion Oratorical Contest winner announced

Alexis Aldinger of Crest High School is the winner of the American Legion High School Oratorical Contest sponsored by Post 82 in Shelby. She will proceed to the District Contest to be held February 1st, 2019.
Other contestants included Jonathan Shauf of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy; Sarah Fletcher of Pinnacle Classical Academy; and Isaac Williams of Shelby High School. All contestants received a cash prize.
Judges for the event were former District Court Judge Ali Paksoy; Shelby attorney and Judge Advocate for Post 82, Greg McIntyre; and Dale Guffey, who has a law degree and teaches Business Law at Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.
A 100th American Legion Anniversary Commemorative coin was presented to contest Chairman Ludy Wilkie for his work in organizing the event. The contest was held Saturday, January 12th, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Shelby.
