Ann Gray Lutz Harry

Ann Gray Lutz Harry, 78, died at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, February 12, 2015. Born in Shelby, NC on February 22, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Lutz and Nancy Coble Lutz.

Growing up as a member of Central United Methodist Church, Ann graduated from Shelby High School and attended Greensboro College. She married the late Charles (Charlie) Franklin Harry, III in June 1956. Ann and Charlie always believed, "you should do as much as you can, for as long as you can, for as many as you can." They lived in Grover where Ann was active in the community especially with the Grover Women's Club and their church, Shiloh Presbyterian. After moving to Shelby in 1973, Ann was a member of the Junior Charity League of Shelby, a board member of Cleveland County Home Health, and an active member of Shelby Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and on numerous other committees. Known for her keen sense of style, Ann was the past owner of McNeely's, a women's specialty clothing store. She enjoyed travelling and was a member of Friendship Force International. An early and avid supporter of Destination Cleveland County, she also enjoyed her bridge clubs and book club but the most important things in her life were her strong faith, church and family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Susan Lutz Allred, brothers-in-law, Herb Allred and David Carpenter. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Ann is survived by her daughter, Robin Harry Smith and husband, Loyd (Kip) Baxter Smith, Jr. of Shelby and her son, Franklin Scott Harry and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Beth) Ellis Harry of Wilmington, NC; a sister, Eugenia (Gennie) Lutz Carpenter of Boiling Springs, NC; brother, John (Johnny) Franklin Lutz, Jr. and wife, Katherine Quinn Lutz of North Charleston, SC, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Pearson Harry of Charlotte, NC, Loyd Baxter Smith, III of Emerald Isle, NC, Wesley Gray Smith of Chapel Hill, NC and Bayard Bishop Harry of Savannah, GA.

In celebration of her life, services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 5:00pm - 6:30pm.
