Anna Elizabeth Mauney



Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Mauney of Rock Hill, SC died at UniHealth PAC of Rock Hill on March 1st, 2014 @12:50AM.

Anna was born February 24, 1918 in Princeton, Ky. to Hugh Daily Skees and Ora Lee Stephens Skees, along with five brothers, Hugh Shelby, Wesley, Charles Lee, Raymond, and Earl.  She was the last surviving family member. 

She married, Fred D. Mauney in Princeton, Ky. and moved to Falmouth, Ky., where they had four children, losing their first daughter at birth.  Around 1947, they moved to Fred’s home town in Shelby, NC.  Anna worked as a Manager of Shelby Parks and Recreation Concession Stands, Managed Coble Dairy Diner, and in later years cared for elderly homebound patients.

Anna was an active member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Shelby, NC, and did voluntary work for the church.  In 1995, she moved to Rock Hill, SC to be closer to her children and attended St. Anne Catholic Church.  After living alone for 10 years, in 2006 she was moved to Park Point Village Assisted Living and then later moved to UniHealth of Rock Hill PAC in 2009, remaining there until her death.

Anna is survived by her three children Sue Dammrich, Fred and Gary Mauney; her 10 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called her “Nonnie”.  

There will be a funeral mass at St. Anne Catholic Church @1694 Bird St., on Thursday, March 6th in Rock Hill, S.C. @ 10AM.  Later, there will be a graveside ceremony @Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, N.C. @ 3PM.  Clay Barnett Funeral Home @704-482-2424 will have all the details.
