Archie Bobby Baber
Archie Bobby Baber, age 87, of Henrietta NC, passed away October 19, 2014 at the Sanger Heart Institute in Charlotte NC. Born February 27, 1927 in Avondale, NC, he was a son of Edgar and Ida Florence Baber. Archie worked in the textile mills at the Haynes plant in Avondale and with Burlington Industries in Caroleen, NC. He was a lifelong member of Haynes Memorial Baptist Church where is mother registered him on the “cradle roll” soon after his birth.  He served as Deacon and for many years, he and his good friend Homer Wall prepared and delivered Christmas treat bags for the children of the church.
 
Archie proudly served in the US Navy during WWII with the PBY Catalina search and rescue aircraft, while assigned to Company 3172 US Naval Training Center Bainbridge, MD. He loved telling stories about his naval career and working with the PBY Squadron at Bainbridge.  He became an avid golfer after his retirement and enjoyed watching and attending PGA tournaments as well as watching the Carolina Panthers play football.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Cathren Godfrey Baber, his brother Glen Baber, his sisters, Willie Mae Wells, Virginia Green and Vera Ruppe and six siblings that passed away at very young ages.  Survivors include his brother, Bill Baber of Forest City NC. His daughter, Barbara Baber Hamrick and her husband, Jack of Hilton Head Island SC, his sons, Dean G. Baber of Henrietta NC and David C. Baber of Forest City NC., five grandchildren DeAnn Hamrick Johnson and husband Eric of Hickory NC., Micheal Hamrick and wife Tammy of Charlotte, NC., Christopher Baber of Ellenboro NC., Keith Baber of Forest City NC., Sherry Crain and husband Mike of Rutherfordton NC., Kevin Baber of Forest City NC and fourteen great-grandchildren. 
 
The family will receive friends Tuesday October 21st from 6-8 pm at the Harrelson Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm, Wednesday, October 22nd at Haynes Memorial Baptist Church with Reverend Dwayne Scruggs officiating.  Burial, with full military honors, will follow at the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
 
Memorial donations are suggested to the American Heart Association or Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC.
