Arvil Burleson

Arvil Burleson age 75 died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at his home. Born in Mitchell County on May 30, 1939, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ellie Pitman Burleson. Arvil was an active member of Pathway Baptist Church in Kings Mountain where he served as a former Trustee. He retired from FMC Lithium after 21 years of service. Arvil enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He made canes and gave them to friends and family. He also entered his canes in the Cleveland County fair where he won ribbons for his work.  Arvil enjoyed working with his hands. He could take old sewing machines and make tractors out of them,

In addition to his parents, Arvil is preceded in death by two brothers, George Burleson and Lewis Burleson; two sisters, Arnette Stephens and Viola Murphy; and his beloved canine companion, “Precious”.

Arvil is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Buchanan Burleson; a son, Clayton Burleson and fiancée Tammy Price of Gastonia; a daughter, Pam Burleson Rutledge and husband Larry of Shelby; a sister, Francis Rowe of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Curtis Burleson and wife Tara and Heather Rutledge; a great granddaughter, Conor Burleson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend,  Dr. Linda LaChance, whom the family wants to thank,  for her loving care and friendship that she gave to Arvil, during his illness.

 

Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. James Hamrick officiating. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm and other times at the home.
