Banquet & silent auction to benefit local group
Director Sam Stutts with children and church members from the Philippines.

When Rev. Glenn Walker began Hands on Missions, a faith-based missions organization, in Cleveland County in 1997, he likely had no idea what that ministry would look like almost 30 years later. Today, the organization involves ministries here in Cleveland County as well as in India, Malawi, the Philippines, Brazil, and in Brooklyn, NY.
In 2014 Walker felt called back into full-time Pastoral ministry. Sam Stutts, who had served as a volunteer with Hands On Missions for several years while managing a network of Christian radio stations, succeeded Walker as president.
"Hands On Missions works in partnership with other Christian organizations, ministries and missionaries," says Stutts. "God has blessed us with many opportunities to be on mission."
On Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at 6 p.m. Hands on Missions will host a celebration banquet and silent auction to benefit the organization's missions efforts. The banquet will be held at the Shelby Mission Camp, 302 Sharpton Dr., Shelby.
The celebration banquet will feature tables that seat eight people for a $150 donation. Those attending the banquet will have the opportunity to bid on items available in the silent auction, in which bids are written on a sheet of paper. At the end of the banquet, the highest listed bidder will win the item.
"The silent auction is a wonderful way to raise funds for all of the various outreach programs God has Hands on Missions providing around the world," says Hands on Missions volunteer Kristy McSwain. "This is an opportunity for local churches, businesses and individuals in the community to donate items for the greatest cause."
Anyone wanting to donate an item for the silent auction is asked to bring it by the Hands on Missions office (1305 N. Post Rd., Shelby) no later than Oct. 20, 2016. Interested donors should call 704-471-1150 to let them know about items to be donated.
"We also invite everyone in the community to attend this night of celebration," says McSwain. "The evening will include worship, testimonies, and praise given to God who makes all things possible."
Stutts says the banquet is also a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about Hands on Missions and all of the organization's upcoming mission trips.
"It's also a great time to meet the director along with other volunteers, and to fellowship with other Christians coming together with the same goal," McSwain says.
For more information about Hands on Missions, visit the organization's web site at www.HandsonMissions.com or find them on Facebook by searching for "Hands on Missions."
