'Belwood Day' a time of reunion, celebration
Friends of Belwood, a nonprofit organization, sponsors the annual car show event.

"Belwood Day" - a long-standing community tradition - will take place in the Belwood community of Cleveland County on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. A flag retirement ceremony, a car show, live music, bouncy houses, food and ice cream will all be part of this yearly event.
The tradition began as a reunion of Belwood School graduates and has transitioned into a day of celebration for the entire community.
Belwood School provided primary and secondary school education to upper Cleveland County students for many years. In 1960, the school held its last graduation and grades 9-12 began attending school at Burns, according to Emily Sisk, chair of this year's Belwood Day celebration.
After its closure, Belwood School alumni began returning annually during Memorial Day weekend to visit family and friends and to attend services at local churches. The weekend became an annual class reunion for many graduates.
"Over the years, Belwood Day has blossomed into a community event with something for everyone in the family to enjoy," says Sisk. "And it still serves as a reunion for Belwood School graduates and students."
The 2019 event will begin at 10 a.m. with a flag retirement ceremony conducted by BSA Troop 413.
"All veterans are encouraged to attend and will have an opportunity to participate in the retirement ceremony," says Sisk.
"We are also excited to have live music by Belwood Bells and Vintage Vibe immediately following the flag retirement ceremony," says Sisk.
Food and ice cream will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to support Belwood scout groups. Other vendors and community organizations will have booths set up around the walking track. A bouncy house and the playground will provide fun for children, and Friends of Belwood, a nonprofit organization, is sponsoring its annual Car Show. The show is open to all cars, trucks and motorcycles with an entry fee of $10 per vehicle. Vehicles can be registered between 8-10 a.m. on May 25. Awards will be announced at the conclusion of the celebration at 1 p.m.
Belwood Community Center - Old Belwood School is located at 1114 Belwood-Lawndale Road, Lawndale.
