Benjamin Oscar Wilson

Benjamin Oscar Wilson age 90, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Cleveland Pines. Born in Cleveland County on January 5, 1924 he was the son of the late Thomas Oscar and Emma Wilson. He was a loyal member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church; he was faithful in their visitation ministry, former deacon, and a member of the McCurry Sunday School Class. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and later was a business manager for the Merchant Marines in Baltimore, Maryland. Ben was a former Mayor of Lattimore and was a member of Lattimore Lions Club.   In addition to his parents, Ben is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ling Wilson; two brothers, Hudson Wilson and Herschel Wilson, and three sisters, Omelia Hamrick, Lois Hite, and Louise Gold.

Ben is survived by a stepson, James Spence and wife Pat of Littlestown PA.; grandchildren, Jim Spence and wife Danielle, and Wende Spence; great grandchildren, Evan and Jeremy Spence. Special niece and caregiver, Ann McSwain and husband Pete; other nieces, Tillie Duncan, Becky Klein, Robin Ruppe, and Beth Ruppe; nephews, Ron Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Barry Hite, and Benji Ruppe.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm an hour before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the caring dedicated administration and staff of Shelby Manor, the nursing staff at Cleveland Pines, and to Deloris Butler for in home care. They also want to thank Hospice Cleveland County for their care in recent months.
