Betty Jean Cummins Brewster, age 93 of Cherryville, formerly of Delray Beach, Fla. passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at Carolina Care Center. She was born April 16, 1923 in Madison County, Indiana to the late Ithamer and Opal Jordan Cummins. She was formerly employed as a secretary in real estate and medical offices. She was a fantastic gardener and homemaker. Betty and her husband, Donald, collected, refurbished, and sold antique furniture. In her younger years, she was a leader in Girl Scouts and 4-H Club. She also taught swimming lessons. Mrs. Brewster once won first place in the Indiana State Fair for her Pie Crust. She enjoyed being with family and traveling. She was a hard worker and a loving lady.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Alvin Brewster; and siblings, Bud Cummins, John Cummins, Beverly Barratt, and Mike Cummins.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Roberts and husband, John of Kings Mountain and Rebecca Mierke and husband, Lanson of Boynton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Michelle Schultz and husband, Steve, Chip Mierke and wife, Nicole, Khristine Sena and husband, Joe, and Michael Hiner and wife, Tammy; and thirteen great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 20, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Dale Hendricks officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
