Betty Plyler Hewitt

Betty Plyler Hewitt, 96, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Kings Mountain Hospice House.  A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Oscar and Grace Kale Plyler.  She worked at JC Penny, AV Wray, and was a homemaker.  She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. 

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Cora Lee Carpenter Plyler; her husband, Joe Anderson Hewitt Sr.; brother, Charles Plyler; sisters, Eileen Maxwell, Nell Stowe, and Juanita Young; grandchildren, Kirsten Hewitt and Kenan Goodwin.

SURVIVED: She is survived by her son, Joe Anderson Hewitt Jr., and wife Susan Keene Nutter of Durham; daughters, Mary Hewitt Goodwin and husband Andy, and Nancy Stallings and husband Russell, all of Shelby; sisters, Evelyn Brady of Gastonia, Frances Anderson of Chattanooga Tenn., Sue Huffstetler of Charlotte, and Doris McManus and husband Irvin of Charlotte; brother, Dan Plyler and wife Irme of Wilmington; grandchildren, Jason Baily and wife Cindy of Shelby, Stephen Hewitt of Chapel Hill, Jeff Goodwin and wife Tracy of Roanoke, VA, Trevor Walker and wife Traci of Belwood, Jonathan Preston and wife Helvia of Woodbridge, VA; great-grandchildren, Whitney and Caleb Goodwin.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES: Tuesday, 2pm, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel

VISITATION:  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

BURIAL: Cleveland Memorial Park
