Bobbie Nell Thomas Hastings, 88 of Shelby, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 in Shelby, NC.
She is survived by her son, Gene Hastings (LaDonna) of Shelby, NC, three grandchildren, Nicki Hastings (Robert Park) of Durham, NC, Carla Hastings of Shelby, NC, and Brandon Hastings (Jorge Sumagit) of San Francisco, CA, four great grandchildren, Nicholas Hastings, Thomas Park, William Park, and Audrey Park, a brother-in-law, Rev. Lloyd Greene of North Augusta, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born August 1, 1929 in Cleveland County, Mrs. Hastings was the daughter of the late Melvin Alonzo Thomas and Ina Susan Beatty Thomas and was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman, Bud, J.D., and W.C. Thomas and sisters, Lila Whisnant, Mary Lou Thomas, Ola Hammond, and Dean Greene.
Bobbie worked and retired as a CNA after more than 30 years of service from Crawley Memorial Hospital in Boiling Springs. Known as "Granny" to all, the children in the family were her pride and joy. Bobbie was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels Fan and never missed a basketball game on t.v. Dean Smith was the love of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially colleagues at the hospital. Bobbie also enjoyed cooking and making "Christmas Goodies".
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Cleveland Funeral Services conducted by Rev. Lloyd Greene. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the staff at Cleveland Pines for the loving care that they gave Bobbie during her time there. An appreciation as well to Kim Eaker, Crystal Burgess, and Madeline Gold for the special bond that they had with Bobbie.
