Bonita Ramsey Townsend

Gaffney -- Bonita Ramsey Townsend, 69, of 201 Vine Street, passed away Sunday, September 16th, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Gerald Townsend and the daughter of the late Mendel and Mary Hopper Ramsey. Bonita was the first female paramedic in Cherokee County, and she served her community for many years. Mrs. Townsend was a special person. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Bonita was a talented person who enjoyed painting and playing the piano. She also loved being around water, whether it be fishing or spending time at the beach.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Townsend is survived by a son, Wesley Townsend, of Charlotte; two daughters, Ashley and Paige Townsend, both of Gaffney; five grandchildren, Chelci Parris and husband, Brandon, Clary Beaty, Sophie Townsend, Ramsey Millwood, and Eli Cobb; a brother, Lee Ramsey and wife, Lynn, of Gaffney; a sister, Patricia Wells and husband, Nick, of Gaffney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beverly Mizell.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 20th, 2018 from 2:30-3:30 pm at Gordon Mortuary of Gaffney. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 pm at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Jim McClure officiating. David Wells, Louie Mizell, Ernest Ramsey, Lukas Ham, Robert Gallagher, and Travis White will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at the residence.
