Brian Matthew Sitzes

Brian Matthew Sitzes, age 41, died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Cape Girardeau Missouri on June 30, 1975 he was the son of J.W. Ray and wife Mary Sitzes of Kokomo, Indiana and Wanda Lou Grabow Sitzes of Shelby. He graduated high school in Kokomo and following graduation enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Brian moved to North Carolina after serving four years in the Marines and completed Basic Law Enforcement Training at Isothermal Community College. Following graduation he began his career with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office where he spent 17 years serving his community both as a deputy and a detective. Brian garnered enormous respect both among the people he served and by his fellow officers. In the department Brian was known for his ability to talk to anyone about anything and could de-escalate almost any situation and make friends doing it. His laid back persona and dry-wit endeared him to all who knew him.

Brian loved his family above all else and made them his first priority. He adored his wife and never failed to show her how much he loved her every day. Brian and Natalie enjoyed playing computer games together and teasing each other mercilessly. He loved getting out on his bicycle and riding for miles and was a technology genius, able to create and repair almost any device. Brian faced many challenges in life but dealt with them with grace and humor.

In addition to his parents, Brian is survived by his wife of 5 years, Becca Clark Sitzes; a son, Matthew Sitzes of Shelby; a daughter, Natalie Clark Sitzes of the home; three sisters, Amber Molnar and husband Noel of Ohio, Hannah Rojas and husband Bryan of Nebraska, and Rebecca Mills and husband Dustin of Tennessee; a brother, Lucus Sitzes and wife Jessica of Shelby; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen and Dorothea Clark of Shelby; and numerous other loving family.

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials can be made, to help defray funeral cost, to: Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, 106 Cherryville Road, Shelby, NC 28150 or the charity of one's choice.
