C. Clayton Worley, age 76, of Ellenboro, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born July 12, 1938 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Charlie Bowman Worley and Vallaree Biggerstaff Worley. Clayton worked for Stonecutter Mills for several years and was an over the road truck driver for thirty-eight years, working for Akers Trucking, McLean Trucking and Overnite Trucking. He was also a funeral assistant for Harrelson Funeral Home for the last six years. Clayton was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and loved his family dearly. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed a good story.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerrell “Pappy” Bedford.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Elsie Bedford Worley; daughter, Cindy Mayer and husband, Mark of Kernersville, NC; sister, Sally Greene and husband, Clayton of Bostic; granddaughter, Lindsay Mayer and fiancé, Corey Clement of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law, Pat Bedford of Forest City. He is also survived by four nephews, Steve Bedford and wife, Debbie, Greg Bedford and wife, Nancy all of Forest City, Matt Bedford of Concord and Jay Bedford and wife, Bailey of Jacksonville, FL; two nieces, Teresa Brown and husband, Scott of Ruth Community and Tammy Branch and husband, Bryan of Rutherfordton; two great-nephews, Harrison Branch and Dillon Bedford; three great-nieces, Gracie Branch, Sarah Brown and Haley Bedford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend David Hawkins and Reverend Ned Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
