Car show, flea market set at senior center

Fancy cars, crafts and bargains will all be available at the Neal Senior Center's Fourth Annual Car Show & Indoor/Outdoor Flea Market, set for Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28, 2017. All proceeds from the events will benefit Meals on Wheels and other programs and services operated by the Council on Aging, which also oversees the Neal Senior Center.
"We are a non-profit organization, so to keep the doors open it takes many fundraising events," says Lori Livingston, volunteer coordinator for the Council on Aging of Cleveland County/Neal Senior Center.
"It takes a lot to feed our seniors and to keep them active," says Livingston. "Plus, we do have to pay for the building and keep the lights on."
This particular event has proved to be very popular with car enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy hunting for bargains.
"We've talked to many 'car' people that are planning on coming out, including a Mustang group, the Broad River European Motor Club, and even some folks with race cars," says Livingston. "And for the bargain hunters, we have more than 25 vendors registered covering a wide variety of crafts, second-hand items and all kinds of knickknacks."
Hours for the flea market are 8 a.m. - noon on Friday, Oct. 27, and 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. The car show will run from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the 28th.
Livermush and plain biscuits will be available for purchase both mornings, and hot dog lunches will be available on Saturday.
"Since it is so close to Halloween, we would love to see everyone dressed up in their best costumes," says Livingston. "We will also plan to have a DJ at the event to play everyone's favorite oldies. This should be a fun time for all!"
Livingston says that donations for the Car Show/Flea Market would be very welcome.
"To help make this a successful event we are asking for donations of many different items: packages of hot dogs and hot dog buns, homemade desserts, Styrofoam cups, plastic plates, paper towels and door prizes," she says. "And we can always use monetary donations as well."
