Carl Fredrick Lynn

Carl Fredrick Lynn, age 95, died Friday, May 4, 2018 at the home of his daughter. Born September 19, 1922 he was the son of the late Fred H. Lynn and wife Bonnie Huffstetler Lynn. He was a Charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the Baxter Davis Sunday school class.

Carl served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and was deployed to France during World War II where he was wounded in action in December of 1944, earning him a Purple Heart, in addition to many other commendations. He was the former Commander of the VFW #4066, Shelby and served as Quartermaster for numerous years. He worked for 20 years as a bookkeeper for Thomas and Howard Co. and later Kendall Drug Co. where he retired in 1987. He was an avid golfer, particularly with the "Monroe Raiders" at River Bend.

In addition to his parents Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Melda Duncan Lynn and one brother William A. "Bill" Lynn.

Carl is survived by his son, David Lynn of Shelby and one daughter, Julie Tillman and husband Garry of Lawndale, one brother Richard Lynn and wife Doris of Shelby.

Funeral service will be held 2pm Monday May 7, 2018 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Rev. Randy Blanton and Rev. Sally Queen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8 pm Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Cemetery with military honors.
