Celebrating Belwood Days

Celebrating Belwood Days

Free horse and buggy rides were provided by Lynn and Rodney Willis. Ian, Aleya, Christian, and Gage had the pleasure of taking this trip.
Belwood Days began in the late 70’s when the Belwood School closed. The event is a reunion held for people who graduated from the school and/or lived in the community. Belwood Days is now held annually on the fourth Saturday in May at the Community Center in the Belwood community of Upper Cleveland County. It begins with a flag ceremony starting at 10 a.m. with the Boy Scouts retiring the flag that has flown during the previous year at the center. They cut the flag into strips and give one to all the veterans in attendance, prior to the respectful burning. A new flag was raised for the coming year, after the Belwood Bells gave a performance of music. This year “The Chicks Band” from Shelby also performed and door prizes were donated by Normans Grove Baptist Church. Belwood Days also features a community yard sale where anyone can bring things to sell. Mayor Debbie Hoyle is very enthusiastic about the annual event. She said: “It brings our community together for a fun filled day.”
