Chris Bernard McDaniel

Chris Bernard McDaniel age 64 died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County on October 13, 1950 he was the son of the late Marvin Bernard and Martha Jane Hardin McDaniel.

Chris is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debi Cloninger McDaniel; two daughters, Taylor McDaniel Wickline and husband Matt of Marietta Ga., and Bradey McDaniel Scott and husband Damon of Durham; two brothers, Mike McDaniel and his wife Kim, and Mark McDaniel all of Shelby;  four grandchildren, Marin Wickline, Bright Wickline, Lilliana Scott and Cruz Scott.  He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

After graduating from Shelby High School and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, he and his wife, Debi, returned to Shelby where he began a 23 year career with Dover/Doran Textiles.  In 1999 Chris opened his own All State Insurance Agency where he found his greatest rewards from his relationships with his employees and clients.

Chris was a man of simple pleasures who enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren most of all.  An avid Tar Heel who loved all things UNC, he also found pleasure and comfort in music, golfing, taking walks, reading, and even mowing the grass. He was a dedicated member of the church, from teaching  children’s Sunday school to serving as a lay leader, church was a centerpiece of his life.

In all aspects, as his young grandchildren reflected, “Papa (Chris)always  put everybody else before himself.” He brought so much joy, fun, and laughter to his friends and family.

We would like to thank our Shelby Presbyterian Church family for their overwhelming love and support, Drs. Calvin Caunt, Brian Smith, and Barry Colson, and the ICU nursing staff at CRMC, especially nurses Zachary Russell, Beth, Lindsey,  and Melissa.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11:00 am at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Ellis Hall.

Memorials may be made to Shelby Presbyterian Church in C/O the Rainbow Connection 226 E. Graham St. Shelby, NC 28150.
