Colester “Buddy” Grier
 Mr. Colester “Buddy” Grier, 65 of 510 Smith Street, Shelby, NC departed this life on Friday, September 28, 2012 at his home.  He was born in Cleveland County, NC on November 8, 1946 to the late James Grier, Sr. and the late Lallage Whitworth Blair.

 
Mr. Grier was a graduate of Cleveland High School.  After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served three years.  He then reenlisted in the U.S. Army and served for another twelve years.  While in the service, Buddy was a staff sergeant in the military police serving his country in the Vietnam War.  He was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, Augusta, GA and Colorado Springs, CO.  Following his military career, he was employed with the New Jersey Police Department for several years while residing in New Jersey before returning home to Shelby.
 
Mr. Grier was a member of Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church and was a mason. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He had a passion for music, reading and most of all, cooking.  In addition, he loved his daughter's Yorkie terrier, “Bentley”, playing on the computer, going to flea markets and sitting on the front porch.
 
In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his daughter, Telisa Denise Grier and two brothers, Jimmie Flack and Donald Grier.
 
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, LaSandra “Sandy” Grier of Shelby; a sister, Lucille Grier McKinney (Pete) of Little Falls, NJ; five brothers, James Grier, Jr. of East Rutherford, NJ, Raymond Grier, Howard Grier, Russell Grier and Warren Grier all of Passaic, NJ; three step-sisters, Irene Wells, Rosemary Wells and Linda Grier all of Passaic, NJ; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a special niece, Chastity Meeks of Shelby; his former wife, Shirley Robinson of Kings Mountain, NC; his former mother-in-law of, Lola Gentry of Shelby, both of whom he was very close to  and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Coleman officiating.  Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church on Thursday.
