Sam Spencer of Davidson, president of the North Carolina Young Democrats organization, visited Shelby Saturday (June 4) to lead installation of 2011-2013 officers for the Cleveland County Young Democrats chapter.
Speaking before the ceremony, Spencer noted that it was a Cleveland County Democratic governor, O. Max Gardner, who set the state of North Carolina on its modern-day course with transformative governance even through hard depression years. He congratulated chapter members on their becoming involved in the political process with “the party that built the state we live in” and that continues to seek good government at every level.
Local Young Democrats officers installed were Nick Carpenter, president, Laura Rose, vice president, Anna Keeley, secretary, and Sarah Casaday, treasurer. Davy Lowman, also chair of the Cleveland County Democratic Party, will serve the group as parliamentarian. A special guest was Allison Stitt, who is the president of a newly established Teen Democrats organization in the county.
In addition to Lowman, other party officials attending the ceremony were Secretary Pat Poston, State Democratic Executive Committee member Betsy Wells, and Cleveland County Commissioner Mary Accor.
The Young Democrats organization is open to all registered Democrats between the ages of 16 and 35. Those interested may contact Carpenter at ccdparty3vc@gmail.com.
