Don Gibson concerts to go 'on the road'

The Don Gibson Theatre (DGT) is once again taking its shows on the road. Three upcoming concerts are going to be held at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds (1751 E. Marion St., Shelby) instead of at the iconic 400-seat venue.

"As of now we can't host full seating at the Don Gibson Theatre, so we are going to host several drive-in style concerts at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds," says DGT Executive Director Stan Lowery. "We are calling the series 'On The Road With Don Gibson.'"

The first show will star comedian Henry Cho on April 9, 2021. This event will be followed by the Don Gibson Singer Songwriters Symposium on April 16-17, 2021, featuring guest Wilson Fairchild on Friday night and the annual Songwriters Competition on Saturday afternoon and evening. Wilson Fairchild will be showcasing some of their hits and some of those of their famous fathers (The Statler Brothers).

On April 24, 2021, the On the Road series will host Wynonna Judd & The Big Noise, followed by the bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent on April 30, 2021.

"While we are sorry not to be able to host these concerts in our own facility, we are grateful that we will still be able to present these fine performers to our dedicated audiences," says Lowery.

All shows are drive-in style, according to Lowery. Concert goers will be able to sit outside oftheir vehicle in lawn chairs or on blankets.

"Participants should bring their own chairs if they want to sit outside their car," says Lowery. "We also ask that there be no big groups sitting together unless they are in the same family group."

Artists will be live and in person, but the sound will also be simulcast on the car radio if attendees choose to sit in their vehicle.

All performances will begin at 8 p.m. For more information, visit the DGT website at www.dongibsontheater.com, or call the box office at 704-487-8114.
