Dora Downs Hamby, 100, of 206 Hull Road, Casar, passed away Monday, August
31, 2015 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

Born September 11, 1914 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late
William Barney Downs and Fannie Viola Kerns Downs. She was retired from
Casar Mill. Mrs. Hamby was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Casar
where she served on the Food Committee for many years. She loved to work in
her flower and vegetable garden.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jake
Hamby; two daughters, June Winnie Hamby and Betty Barnett; daughter-in-law,
Kathy Hamby; two brothers, Everette Downs and Jim Downs and two sisters,
Lydia Viola Downs and Ada Robertson; two granddaughters, Kendra Hamby
Bradley and Barbara Barnett and two grandsons, David and Bobby Barnett.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Hamby of Casar; Wayne Hamby (Gayla) of
Morganton; Richard Hamby (Betty) of Casar and Don Hamby (Sheila) of
Greenville, TN; daughter, Helen Smith (Danny) of Casar; son-in-law, Bob
Barnett of Polkville; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and
two great-great grandchildren.

Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home &
Cremation Center. At other times the family will be at the home of Helen
and Danny Smith, 220 Hull Road, Casar.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Thursday at St. Paul Baptist Church. The body will
be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.

Officiating: Rev. Keith Fulbright and Rev. R.A. Brackett

Burial: will follow in the church cemetery.
