Doris Imogene McMurry Walker

Doris Imogene McMurry Walker age 85, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Peak Resources, Shelby, NC.  Born in Cleveland County on July 5, 1929, she was the daughter of the late D.L. and Delphia Byers McMurry.  Doris attended Limestone College.  She was a member of the Working Artists Guild where she won numerous awards for her painting and art work.  She was secretary/treasurer for Arr-bee Enterprises which included the Burger Barn and Little Moo.  Doris was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She always put others first.  She was a life-long member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her husband of sixty two years, James Warlick Walker.

 

Doris is survived by two sons Gary Walker (Susan) of Charlotte, NC. and Philip Walker (Suzanne) of Shelby, NC.; four grandchildren Hart Walker of Charlotte, Emily Walker (Kenny McCourt) of Cullowhee, Danielle Cline (Derek) and James Walker all of Shelby, NC.; two great grandchildren Hayden Walker and Lane Cline of Shelby, NC.; several cousins including Patricia Brown who diligently cared for Doris and James.

 

 

Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 2:00pm at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy T. Byers officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
