Mrs. Hamm was born on May 12, 1924 in Transylvania County a daughter of the late Joseph Berry and Laura Landreth Galloway. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Edna enjoyed baking cakes and embroidering pillowcases. She had a deep loved for reading.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Gilmore Boyd Hamm; brothers, Marshall, Ira, Harry, Edgar “Doc”, and Pat Galloway; sisters, Ruth Thrift, Georgia Glover, and Ettalee Galloway; infant granddaughter, April Witherspoon; and a special friend, Alma Beam.
Survivors include her two sons, Ronald Boyd Hamm (Nancy) of Lake Waccamaw, NC, and Scott Berry Hamm (Cathy Lackey) of Cherryville; three daughters, Linda Witherspoon (Clyde “Yates”) of Cherryville, Janet Scarborough (David) of Avon, NC, and Thelda Wood (Fabian Sandobal) of Cherryville; two sisters, Layree Wilburn of Blackstone, VA, and Maxie Wallace of Randleman, NC; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Robbins and Rev. Keith Hollar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
