Eleanor “Ellie” Brackett Buse

Eleanor “Ellie” Brackett Buse died in her home on November 13, 2014 in Shelby, NC. She was 87. 

Ellie was born on April 7, 1927 in Newton, MA to her parents Edward and Theckla Brackett. In 1948 she graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA with a Bachelors degree in English. Ellie moved to Shelby in 1959 with her then husband, the late Richard "Dixie" Buse. 

Ellie worked as Job Developer for the local Displaced Homemakers Program at Cleveland Technical College and later taught at Burns High School. A member of AAUW, the Historic Shelby Foundation, the Cecelia Music Club, and the Charlotte Chapter of Ikebana International, she was also a former Director of the Pioneer Girl Scouts Council and an active member of Shelby Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Elder. Additionally, Ellie participated in local Bridge and book clubs. 

Ellie is survived by her three children Mark Buse of Shelby, Diane McBeth of Hickory, NC, and Carrie Buse of Santa Monica, CA; five grandchildren Paul, Aaron, Sarah, Nicole, and Samantha Koch; and two great grandchildren Mary and Megan Koch.

Burial will be at 1:00 P.M.  Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Sunset Cemetery.

 

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. 

The family will receive friends following the service.
