Elliott Family Farms host Heritage Day Oct. 1

Elliott Family Farms will host the 9th Annual Heritage Day from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m Saturday Oct. 1, 2016, at the farm at 356 London Road, outside Polkville, NC. Bob and Hilda Elliott, along with their children Brian, David, Julie and Ben, own and operate Elliott Farms, which they have recreated to reflect life in a farming community around the turn of the century. Restored log cabins, antique tractors and equipment, a general merchandise store, a blacksmith shop and country crafts are just a few of the attractions at the farm.
Special activities planned for Heritage Day include molasses making, corn grinding and apple butter demonstrations. Fresh butter will be churned, and quilts, pottery and other arts and crafts will be on display, with some items available for purchase.
"It's going to be a very fun and educational day for the entire family," says Hilda Elliott. "There will also be lots of kids' activities and wagon rides, and story-teller Jennie Jones will perform Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m."
Admission to the event is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are admitted free. An antique tractor and engine exhibit will be available free of charge.
This year for the first time, the Heritage Day celebration is being held in conjunction with the "Mountain Rendezvous," an event sponsored by the North Carolina Trappers Association. The North Carolina Trappers Association actively works to preserve and promote responsible trapping. The association cooperates closely with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission in its management and conservation of wild, fur-bearer species.
The Mountain Rendezvous is a family event for trappers and their families and is open to the public. Trapping demonstrations are planned for various species of predators.
