Mr. Emmett “M.G.” Griffin, Jr.  62, of 515 Dover Street Apt. 6, Shelby, NC departed this life on Monday, March 3, 2014 at his residence.  A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Emmett Griffin, Sr. and the late Margie Eaves Griffin. 

“M.G.”, as he was known by many, was a graduate of Shelby High School and was a member of the basketball team.  He was employed in the textile industry for over 30 years and also worked for the City of Shelby a number of years.  M.G. will be remembered for his good and loving nature.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lynn Griffin Toms and two brothers, Calvin Beam and Ivory Wray.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Gwendolyn Griffin Thompson (Ed), Patricia G. Moore, Carolyn Griffin, Sandra Griffin Mendoza, Janice “Dusty” Wray, Cynthia “Red” Wray, Denise Pettis (Dennis), Priscilla Adams (Michael), Zinnie Brooks (Bernard), and Kathy Beam all of Shelby; brothers, Larry Wray, Vigor Beam, Jerry Beam (Ebony) and James Louis Beam (Catherine) all of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Living Waters Christian Ministries, 505 Blanton St. in Shelby with Pastor Carolyn Briggs officiating.  The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Gwen Thompson, 719 E.
