Euzele Petty Greene

SHELBY - Euzele Petty Greene, age 105, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Shelby Manor. She was born on July 8, 1912 in Cleveland County to the late William Broughton Petty and Sarah Lucinda Grigg Petty. She was a lifelong member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church and took great pride in being the oldest member. After graduating from Mooresboro High School in 1931, she married Emmett Greene on December 18, 1934, and they were married for fifty years. She did not have a "public" job for much of her life, but she spent her days raising her children and working alongside her husband on the family farm. After her children were grown, she worked as a seamstress for Waldrop's Men's Store in Forest City.

Affectionately known as "Mother" and "Mawmaw," she valued God, family, hard work, and humor. Her strength, quick wit, and Christian example were admired by many. She enjoyed sewing, working outside with her flowers, being around people, and in her later years, riding her grandchildren on her golfcart.

She is survived by sons Gilbert Greene and his wife Jean; Joel Greene; and Carl Greene and his wife Wanda, as well as daughters Geraldine Kepley and her husband Darius; and Barbara Ivie and her husband Ron. She leaves behind twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Billy Steve Greene, a grandson, Barry Greene, four brothers, and two sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Chase Robinson and Rev. Chris Devine officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 prior at Cleveland Funeral Services.

Memorial donations may be made to Sandy Plains Baptist Church, 2112 New House Rd, Shelby, NC 28150 or Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Height Dr, Shelby, NC 28150
