Francis “FW” Stanley, Jr.

Mr. Francis “FW” Stanley, Jr., age 84 of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.  Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at Cleveland Funeral Services and Crematory Chapel conducted by Pastor Deborah Lesenger.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

   He is survived by three nieces, Nita Bullock of Acworth, GA, Mary Spencer and husband Dan Bolerjack of Daytona Beach, FL, and Diane Scronce and husband Wayne of Daytona Beach, FL, a nephew Dave Spencer and wife Faith of Wilmington, NC, three grand nieces, Beth Barrington and husband Jason Rohr of Decatur, GA, Sarah Spencer of Wilmington, NC, and Katie Spencer of Raleigh, NC, and two grand nephews, Nathan Scronce and wife Ashley Rush of Decatur, GA, and Spencer Bolerjack of Daytona Beach, FL.

   Born December 18, 1929 in Goldsboro, NC, Mr. Stanley was the son of the late Francis West, Sr. and Nita (Howell) Stanley and was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Spencer and her husband Frank and a grand nephew, Myles Bullock.  FW graduated from Goldsboro High School and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree at East Carolina University and his Master’s Degree at Florida State University.  He also attended and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Throughout his life, FW held many positions in a wide variety of occupations.  He was a Bookkeeper, Funeral Service Practitioner working from the ground up, and a Public School Teacher encompassing 50 years of service.  Mr. Stanley was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church.  He also served as an officer in the BPOE of Shelby, a Past Master of the Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634, and was an active participant of the Shrine Club.  His wit and creativity can be best summed up as extremely unique.  He loved working on computers, observing nature, participating in his church, photography, and spending time with his family and friends. The monthly family newsletter that he created and shared with family and friends will be forever missed.

   The family would like to express a sincere thanks to the John Knox Presbyterian Church Family, neighbors, friends, and the nursing staff and health providers of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made the John Knox Presbyterian Church, 610 Charles Road, Shelby, NC 28152.
