Frank “Bill” Monroe Sullens

Frank “Bill” Monroe Sullens, age 85 died Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at White Oak Manor “Ally’s Cove” in Kings Mountain. Born in Cowpens SC on December 1, 1928 he was the son of the late Wiley Lemuel and Lillian Smith Sullens. Mr. Sullens was the founder of Frank Sullens Trucking, in the early 1960’s.  He retired from Sullens Trucking Company Inc. after 62 years of dedication.  Mr. Sullens passion for trucking brought much pleasure to his life. Most of his brothers were truckers or diesel mechanics. He enjoyed working with several of his nephews through the years.  Barry Sullens, owner of Barry’s Tires of Forest City. Eddie Sullens and his son Vince, owners of  Sullens Diesel and Auto Repair, Inc, of Kings Mountain and Talmadge Turner, owner of Turner Trucking, Boiling Springs, to name a few. Mr. Sullens was known by many as the “Trailblazer”. He will be deeply missed, loved by his children and all of his family. God needed a trucker and called him home.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his former wife, Peggy Sides Sullens; a son, Gary Dean Sullens; four brothers, George, Ray, Talmadge “Lee” and Lemuel “Gene” Sullens; and four sisters, Dorothy Wofford, Mildred Reaves, Sarah Glemaker, and Elizabeth Smith.

 

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Vanessa Sullens Stockton and Regina Sullens Thomas and husband Brad all of Shelby; two sons, Douglas Franklin Sullens and wife Lynn and Larry Gene Sullens and wife Susan all of Cherryville; a brother, Roy Sullens of Gastonia; a sister, Lorene Foster and husband Charles of Shelby;  grandchildren, Gary Dean Sullens, Jr., Douglas Franklin Sullens, Jr. “DJ”, Kelly Jo Stockton Drum and husband JR, and Laura Jeane Sullens; one great granddaughter, Jada Sullens; and a host of other family and friends.

 

The family will receive friends on Friday September 19, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
