Fred "Junior" Neill
Fred "Junior" Neill, age 89, formerly of Old Post Rd. passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Carolina Care Health & Rehabilitation. He was born September 30, 1928 in Gaston County to the late Mallie Mae Lingerfelt and Fred Canada Neill, Sr. Junior was a member of First Wesleyan Church where he was a church teller emeritus, member of the local board administration, and sang in the choir. He retired after 45 years from the City of Cherryville as Forman of the Street Team. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and bird watching. He also had a love for Bluegrass Music. Junior was a loyal son and husband who was dedicated to the care of his parents and wife.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Gertrude Throneburg Neill; daughter, Sandra Lee Chapman; and siblings, Barbara Jeanette Neill and J.B. Neill.
Survivors include his children, Marsha Yount and husband, Roy of Cat Square, Kathy Pilkington and husband, Randy of Lowell, Debra Recore and husband, Joe of Charlotte, and Randy Chapman and wife, Julia of Cherryville; brother, James Paul Neill of Idaho; nieces and nephews, Janet Neill Jones and husband, Tom, Beth Sain, Randy Neill, Jim Neill and wife, Julie, Doug Neill and wife, Nancy, and Nancy Sicking and husband, Joe; eight grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First Wesleyan Church with Rev. Mark B. Poe officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 AM prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Carolina Care for their excellent care and love shown to Junior and his family during his stay.
