Garland Ray Ridings, age 70, died Monday November 23, 2015 at his home. Born in Cleveland County on September 30, 1945 he was the son of the late Garland Roosevelt and Lilly Cansadie Camp Ridings. Garland was a member of Lily Memorial Baptist Church. He was the owner of Garland Ridings Painting Contractor and has previously been a scenic artist for Earl Owensby Studio. Garland liked to hunt, play golf, and fish. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Todd Ridings; a daughter, Kimberly Ridings; three brothers, Grady Ridings, Jack Ridings, and Tommy Ridings; and two sisters, Jean Woods and Grace Russ.

Garland is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Bumgardner Ridings; a son, Tommy Ridings and Ellen Thrift of Shelby; a special brother-in-law, Joe Bumgardner and wife Lynn of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Rev. Forrest Ridings and wife Robin and Billy Ridings and wife Dolores all of Shelby; a sister, Joyce Tesiener and husband Don of Lawndale; four grandchildren, Kristen Bean, Jessica Ridings, Erica Duffie, and Lucas Ridings; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Friday November 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Forrest Ridings officiating, Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm and other times at the home.
