George David Richardson

Blacksburg -- George David Richardson, 69, of 819 Bridges Road, passed away Wednesday, August 16th, 2017, at his residence.

Born in Blacksburg, he was the husband of Kathy Davenport Richardson and the son of the late Wilbur and Mildred Richardson. Dave proudly served in the United States Army from June of 1967 until June of 1969 and spent eleven months in Vietnam. In 1997, he began his work at Limestone College in the Public Safety Department. Dave later joined the Athletics Department as Director of Athletics Security until his health forced his retirement after the 2016-2017 athletics season.

The effect that Limestone had on Dave was clearly shown by how, during his battle with cancer, Dave and Kathy could still be found at Limestone events. This statement from Limestone shows the effect that David had on them: "Everyone who has anything to do with Limestone Athletics knows who Officer Dave was, but the impact that he had on the general student body, the parents and the alumni on game day will never be matched. Dave dearly loved every student-athlete, coach, and staff member that he worked with, and he greatly blessed and enriched each one of our lives."

David's relationships with others was fueled by his relationship with God. He was a long-time member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and always had on a pair of "happy socks." He also loved his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as he could.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, Mr. Richardson is survived by a daughter, Shannon Hensley Smith, of Blacksburg; two sons, Chris Richardson of Gaffney and Jason Hensley of Tennessee; a sister, Bonnie Scruggs and husband, Larry, of Gaffney; a brother, Terry Richardson and wife, Doris, of Blacksburg; eight grandchildren, Josh, Riley, Makayla, Sydney, Jake, Chace, James, and Madi.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19th, 2017, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street Blacksburg, South Carolina 29702.
