George N. Campbell, age 96, died on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Wesley Pines Retirement Community in Lumberton, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Winn Campbell. He was born in 1920 on a farm in upstate South Carolina, to the late John Andrew Campbell and Maude Richardson Campbell in the community of Westminster. He was the eighth of nine children. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Forces as a Radio Operator on B-17 aircraft. Following his military service, he began a lengthy career in the textiles business, culminating in his retirement from Kings Plush, Inc (formerly K Mills, Inc). Throughout his life, he enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including ham radio, gardening, Bible study, fishing, hunting, beekeeping, wood and metal working, welding, cooking, boating. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain, NC. The family would like to extend gratitude to all the staff at the Wesley Pines Retirement Community, a member of United Methodist Retirement Homes.

SURVIVORS: Daughter Jane (Al) Tackett and Son Jeffrey (Sarah) Campbell, and five grandchildren: Nicholas Tackett, Collin Campbell, Boone Campbell, Emma Grace Campbell, and Katie Beth Campbell. His siblings preceded him, but he is survived by many nieces and nephews. George is also survived by his special friend Lucille Myers.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, January 21, 2017. 2:00 PM at Harris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Julie A Roberts officiating.

VISITATION: The family will greet friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

INTERMENT: Burial will follow at Grand View Memorial Park, 620 S. Cherry Rd, in Rock Hill

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George's name to either Wesley Pines, 1000 Wesley Pines Rd, Lumberton, NC or to Grace United Methodist Church, 830 Church St, Kings Mountain, NC.
