Have You Taken The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?
Korner Gym members and friends responded to their ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The challenge has spread nationwide to raise money for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. This is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain. The campaign was designed to raise awareness and funds for research. The “Ice Bucket Challenge” has been increasingly popular and thus far has resulted in the biggest fundraiser ALS has even had. As of Wednesday, August 27, The ALS Association had received $94.3 million in donations compared to $2.7 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 27). These donations have come from existing donors and 2.1 million new donors. The Korner Gym, located at 115 N. Lafayette Street in Uptown Shelby, had friends and fans gather together to respond to the challenge in front of their business on Thursday, August 21st. Owners, R.T. and Marsha Rodriguez did the honors for anyone who accepted the challenge. Pictured, Frank Tinoco waits his turn as R.T. douses Mark Price.
