Hazel Allen Gardner

SHELBY- Hazel Allen Gardner, 77, passed away Sunday Nov. 27, 2016, at Wendover at Hospice. A native of Cleveland Co., he was born to the late Bryan Sylvester and Pauline Beam Gardner. Hazel graduated from Waco High School, served in the United States Army, worked at Bost Bakery for 22 years, and retired from Curtiss Wright Flight Systems after 15 years. He was an active member at Westwood Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon. He enjoyed deer hunting, playing golf and watching Duke win basketball games, loved Bridges Barbeque and Bojangles biscuits. He had lots of fun enjoying magic tricks and keeping the secret to how he did them. Hazel also enjoyed gardening and western square dancing with his wife, Joyce.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers, Dwan, Torrence, Bevin, Norris, Reid, and Ralph.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Wylie Gardner, of the home; sons David Allen Gardner and wife Janet Moseley Gardner of Kings Mountain, and Roger Wylie Gardner and wife Shelia Hilton Gardner of Swannanoa; grandchildren, Andrew Madison Gardner, Adam David Gardner, Samuel Hilton Gardner and wife Brianna Gardner, Emily Gardner White and husband Parker White, and Allison Marie Gardner; sisters-in-law, Louise Marie Gardner and Wanda Jean Gardner; brother in-law, Gayle Madison Wylie and wife Ann Carlton Wylie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM, Wed., at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home

FUNERAL SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 11:00AM, Thurs., at Westwood Heights Baptist Church

OFFICIATING: Rev. David Costner

BURIAL: will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park immediately following the service.
