Hazel Marie Kelley

Hazel Marie Kelley, age 72 of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her family. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at New Camp Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Richard Stroup. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robin "Bob" Kelley of the home, four sons, Ronnie Kelley of Tucson, AZ, Rueben Kelley of Shelby, NC, Herbert Albert Kelley of Kentucky, and Kenneth Kelley and wife Darlene of Sylvannia, GA, two daughters, Cheryl Mecham and husband Michael of Camas, WA, and Denise Alston of California, a foster daughter, Jennifer Ribeiro and a foster son, James Markowitz, three brothers, James Rutledge of Talking Rock, GA, Roy Rutledge and wife Candy of Los Angeles, CA, and Gary Rutledge and wife Dorothy of San Diego, CA, and a sister, Bobbie Jean Speciale of Wichita, KS. She has 26 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and most beloved friends, Bernie and Diane Brother of more than 43 years in Virginia Beach, VA and Johnny and Janet Septic of Virginia Beach, VA.

Born October 11, 1942 in Picher, OK, and raised in Wichita, KS, Mrs. Kelley was the daughter of the late Robert and Edna (Duty) Rutledge and was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Rutledge, a grandson, Brent Michael Kelley, a granddaughter, Kara Alston, a much beloved sister-in-law, Lynn Rutledge, a mother-in-law, Eva Mildred (Debo) Kelley, and a close family relative, Jay R. Rutledge.

Mrs. Kelley married her childhood sweetheart, Robin "Bob" Kelley. As a wife of a Navy serviceman, she has made many friends all over the world. She retired from Ciola's Italian American Restaurant after 25 years as manager and chef in Virginia Beach, VA in 2003. After retirement, she and her husband moved to Shelby, NC to be near their son and grandson. Hazel was a member of the New Camp Creek Baptist Church and member of the VFW Ladies Axillary Post 9811 in Kings Mountain, NC.
