Hester "Nicky" Tulburt Booker
Hester "Nicky" Tulburt Booker of Karen Ct., passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System-Cleveland. She was a native of Wilkes County, Miller Creek, NC. She was a daughter of the late Charles H.M. and Sena A. Tulburt. Hester was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was involved with Chancel Choir, Florene Styles Sunday School Class, U.M.W., and Callie Beam Circle. She also chaired and served on many committees church wide. She attended Lenoir Rhyne College and graduated from Greensboro College. Mrs. Booker taught in the NC school system for 30 years. She was a member of Cherryville Music Club. Hester volunteered at Cleveland Regional in Shelby for 25 years with an accumulation of 5,800 hours of service. During her retirement years, she enjoyed reading, traveling, music, and drama; especially summer outdoor theater with her husband.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James T. "Jim" Booker; her precious granddaughter, Erika Lane Crowder; brothers, Guy and Reno Tulburt; and sisters, Violet T. Wooten and Vivian T. Cole.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela B. Crowder and husband, Dennis "Cotton" Crowder; grandson, Adam Crowder; sister, Doris Robinson and husband, Dave, Greensboro; sister-in-law, Helen Blackford, Winston Salem; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 at 4:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Collins, D. Min. officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 2:30 to 3:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
