Mr. J.W. Lail, age 71 of Shelby, NC, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte. A visitation will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Monday, July 27, 2015 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Royster Avenue Church of God conducted by Bishop Richard L. Shores and Pastor Eli Challita. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Judith (Smith) Lail, four children, Ken Lail of Greer, SC, Denise Jones and husband Dennis of Shelby, NC, Wayne Lail of Shelby, NC, and Dale Lail and wife Angel of Shelby, NC, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters, Pansy Heafner of Lawndale, NC, Marie Webb and husband Roger of Boiling Springs, NC, and Glenda Ogle of Boiling Springs, NC, and a special friend and caregiver, Carol Clanton.
Born June 4, 1944 in Cleveland County, Mr. Lail was the son of the late John Winslow Hawkins and Sara Eloise (Sparks) Lail and was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Lail and John Lail.
Mr. Lail passionately owned and operated AA United Cab Co. for more than 15 years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, classic cars, and watching Nascar. He loved his grandchildren and his special gift to them was giving them two dollar bills.
