James Edison "Ed" Noggle Jr.

James Edison "Ed" Noggle Jr., age 73, died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Cleveland County on February 28, 1945; he was the son of the late James E. Noggle, Sr. and Lena Hamrick Noggle. He was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a major in the classics. He was in the first study abroad group of the joint efforts of Stanford and UNC; traveling to Italy and extensively throughout Europe. He loved studying the stock market and enjoyed passing his knowledge on to others. Ed taught Latin, German, and English at the Darrow school in upstate New York. He was a train and railroad enthusiast who believed trains embodied the two best attributes of life: motion and purpose. For the last 26 years through the influence of Bill W., Ed was able to guide countless men and women to a better way of life.

Ed is survived by his sister Kathy Dedmond and husband Keith of Lincoln Co. and one brother Danny Noggle and wife Patricia of Shelby, cousin Susan Baxter King and husband Brian of Hickory, three nephews, Kevin Dedmond, Michael Dedmond and wife Bridgett, Brian Dedmond and wife Kris, one niece Melissa D. Boothe and husband Brandon as well as three grand-nieces and three grand-nephews of whom he was extremely proud, and two feline friends Puss and Boots.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 6 pm until 8 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
