James Flay Mellon

Mr. James Flay Mellon, 84, of 2516 County Line Rd. passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

Mr. Mellon was born on January 31, 1930 in Cleveland County a son of the late James Eddie Mellon and Texie Massagee Mellon.  He worked for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation of Cherryville as a mechanic and retired as a truck driver for Stewart Trucking of York, SC.  Mr. Mellon attended of Plainsview Baptist Church in Lawndale and was a former member of Tryonota Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Annie Mae Brittain Mellon of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Mellon Sneed and Joe; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie Ray Mellon and Gail and Ronnie Flay Mellon and Donna all of Cherryville; four grandchildren, Zeb Mellon, Dayne Sneed, Isaiah and Josh Mellon; two great grandchildren, Jason and Kylie Mellon; two brothers, Earl Mellon of Kings Mountain and David Mellon of Shelby and two sisters, Louise Wilkie of Grover and Gail Pearson of Shelby.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 25, 2014 from 12:45 to 1:45PM at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Key officiating.

Burial will be at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice at Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150.
