James Larry Clay

James Larry Clay of Alexandra Drive, Shelby, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018.

Born in Cleveland County on November 29, 1932, Larry was a son of the late James Franklin Clay and Ruth Williamson Clay. He was retired from and proudly served in the United States Air Force and then Duke Power Company. He was a member and Deacon at Pisgah AR Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golf and travel, spending time with family in California, Idaho, Alaska, and England.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Clay Harp; 2nd wife Betty Hollobone Clay; a sister Janice Clay Taylor; and two brothers, Dickie and Roger Clay.

He is survived by his sister Rachel Clay Magness Arndt and two brothers, Mike and Ron Clay; his first wife, Roberta Prentice Clay; daughter Lin Clay Prentice; son, JD Clay; son-in-law, Bill Harp; two grandchildren, Lisa Harp McAllister and April Harp; and two great grandchildren, James Charles and Katherine Claire McAllister.

A life celebration Potluck for family and friends is scheduled for 2:00pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, 2036 Rehobeth Church Road, Shelby. Per his wishes, Larry will be cremated and his ashes scattered near his childhood home in Polkville.

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Mr. Clay.
