Joan Brown Brackett Poindexter

Joan Brown Brackett Poindexter, 95, of White Oak Manor Kings Mountain, formerly of Bessemer City, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014.  A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Sid and Mary Reynolds Brown.  She and her husband owned and operated Brackett’s Grocery in Bessemer City for many years.  Joan was a great mother who loved her family, and enjoyed playing bingo.

PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Martin Lee Brackett; second husband, Marvin Poindexter; grandson, Mike Goins; and eight brothers and sisters.

SURVIVED: She is survived by her daughters, Pat Duncan of Shelby, Joyce Picklesimer and husband Roy of Bessemer City, and Nellie Goins of Kings Mountain; sons, Gary Brackett and wife Wanda of Bessemer City, and Wayne Jr. Brackett and wife Jan of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Amy Shedd and husband Mark of Cherryville, Todd Duncan and wife Leslie of Shelby, Mark Picklesimer and wife Holly, Angie Creighton and husband Blair, all of Bessemer City, and Jeff Thompson and wife Beth of Gastonia; 14 great-grandchildren; special friend and roommate, Sarah Smith; and her beloved dog, Lucy.  The family would like to thank the staff of White Oak Manor Kings Mountain, for all their love and care they extended.

FUNERAL SERVICES:  Tuesday, 2pm, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Kings Mountain

VISITATION:  The family will receive friends Tuesday, 12:30-2pm, at the funeral home
