Joan Camp Ellis



Joan Camp Ellis age 84, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, Sept 1, 2014. She was born in Cleveland County on March 9, 1930 and was the daughter of the late D.G. and Lillie Hopper Camp. Joan was retired from PPG Industries after 32 years of service. She was a member of New Buffalo Baptist where she taught Sunday school. She loved her church and her church family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands; Willard Panther, Dennis Pitchford, and William A. Ellis; a brother Leighton Camp; and a sister, Betty Wood.

Joan is survived by her children, Deborah Wilson and husband Cliff and son Rick Panther and wife Carolyn all of Shelby; a sister, Joy Long and husband Hugh of Shelby; three grandchildren, Melia Thomas and husband Will of New Bern, Miranda Spangler and husband Blair of Sylva, and Travis Wilson and wife Meredith of Oxford; seven great grandchildren, Beau, Benji, and Kinsey Thomas, Gracie and Jackson Spangler, and Jake and Avery Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her devoted Christian life will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton funeral home and Crematory with Rev. Adam Greene officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of Rick and Carolyn Panther.  A private burial will be held at Cleveland Memorial Park.
