John Bennett Dellinger, Jr.
John Bennett Dellinger, Jr., age 95, of Pine Ave., died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1919, a son of the late John Bennett Dellinger Sr. and Vida Victoria Aderholt Dellinger. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served as Secretary of Sunday School for over 50 years.  Mr. Dellinger was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving in the South Pacific in WWII.  He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross Award.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 100 and enjoyed fishing. John was head of maintenance for Carlton Yarn Mills and after retirement, he was co-owner and president of Fairfield Textiles and Glove Company.  
 
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 wonderful years, Coneta Beam Dellinger and brothers, Blaine A. Dellinger and James Dellinger.
 
Survivors include his children, Anita Millwood and husband Don of Cherryville, and J. Bennett Dellinger, III and wife Caroline, of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Marie M. Mackie and husband, Brian of Hickory, Sarah M. Neill and husband, Bryan of Cherryville, and Cheslie M. Carter and husband, Andrew of Mooresville; six great grandchildren, Greyson, Brayden, Sawyer, Kaylin, Luke, and Austin; brother, David Carol Dellinger of Florida; and a granddog, Max.
 
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 1:30 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Eric Childers officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post 100 Cherryville. 
 
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 12:00 to 1:15 PM prior to the service in the Vida Dellinger Parlor at St. John’s church.
