John Douglas Russell, 61, of R.S.W. Trail, Forest City, died on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, he was born on April 02, 1953, a son of Faye Wood Russell of Forest City and the late Jon Max Russell. He was a retired Construction Worker and was a United States Army Veteran. He was also a member of Crestview Baptist Church of Forest City and loved gardening, fishing and animals.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Cogdell. He is survived by his brother, Scott Russell and wife Dani of Landrum, SC; three sisters, Gwen Bennett and husband Jimmy of Ellenboro, Connie Grand and husband Michael of Forest City and Sheryl McGinnis of Forest City; 6 nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Mr. Russell’s Life will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, June 23, 2014 at The A.C. McKinney Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Rhom officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:45pm-3:00pm on Monday at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral and Cremation Service and at other times at the home of his mother, Faye Russell.
Memorial donations are suggested to Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 630 S. Church Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
