John Eric Rhom, 59, of Pleasant Drive, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of McDowell County, he was born November 8, 1954, son of the late Donald Franklin and Betsy Carrigan Rhom. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he was a member of the Gateway Sunday school Class and Shelby Rescue Squad. He is also a member of #744 Masonic Lodge and former member of Shanghai volunteer fire department and Boiling Springs City Fire Department.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Penny Hayes Rhom of the home; one son, Erich Thomas Rhom and wife Leslie of Shelby; one daughter, Syndi Hamrick of Ellenboro; two sisters, Susan Guffey and husband Mitchell and heather Huskey both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Alexander Cameron Rhom, Jacob Forrest Rhom, Isaac Holden Rhom, Johnathon Phillip Hamrick, and Allison Elizabeth Hamrick; many nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: A funeral service will be held 6:00pm Wednesday evening at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

VISITATION: The family will greet friends after the service as everyone exits.

BURIAL: Burial will be in the church cemetery 10:00 am Thursday morning.
